The Search for a Better Additive Manufacturing Tool Steel

Ante Lausic-Lead Process Engineer-Metal Additive Manufacturing, General Motors

ASM Speaker Series In-person Event

March 11th, 2026 at 6:30pm, Holiday Inn, 590 Argus Rd, Oakville, ON L6J 3J3

About the talk:

Additive manufacturing has unlocked advancements in tooling to improve cycle times and scrap rates but the material science is still catching up. What is needed is a steel that doesn’t crack, erode, or soften in production, especially for the biggest industry usage in high pressure die casting. This session will cover our tool steel experiments and why cracking the printability vs. performance trade-off remains the key unlock for a no-compromise solution.
